Metal fire buckets replaced leather fire buckets, before the 17th century there were no organised fire services. instead of being stored in church halls, metal buckets were stored close to where fires were likely to start, hanging on stands due to their rounded bottom in rooms and corridors in schools, army barracks and government buildings. in the modern world plastic buckets are used. these charming buckets make gorgeous planters in the garden.
